Five simple steps to stay protected during cold and flu season

It happens every year around this time. You feel a scratch in your throat. Familiar chills, aches and fatigue set in, and you’re calling in to work sick or missing your favorite activities. But it doesn’t have to be that way. Here are five simple steps to help keep you, your family and friends protected during cold and flu season:

Get your flu shot

Flu shots are available at the Laborers Health & Wellness clinics for all eligible members ages three and older.

Practice healthy habits

Get plenty of sleep, stay active, manage your stress, drink plenty of fluids and eat healthy foods.

Wash your hands

Use soap and water to wash your hands throughout the day, especially after being in public areas and before eating or drinking. Use hand sanitizer when you can’t wash your hands immediately.

Cover your mouth and nose

Colds and the flu are most often spread by droplets. Covering your mouth and nose with a tissue when coughing or sneezing and masking up in public when you aren’t feeling well can help protect the people around you.

Stay home if you’re sick

Whenever possible, stay home if you aren’t feeling well to prevent the spread of illness. If you have the flu, stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone (without the aid of Tylenol).

Convenient care when you need it

We hate to see you sick, but if you end up catching a cough, cold or the flu, our clinicians are available to treat your symptoms and help you feel better, either in person or through a video visit.
