Family Health Care

Union Laborers, spouses, and dependents have access to high-quality health coverage through the Minnesota Laborers Health and Welfare Fund. That coverage follows the member from job to job and employer to employer.

Union Labor members working under the Laborers Minnesota and North Dakota bargaining agreements are eligible for comprehensive family health coverage after completing 330 hours of covered work and a one-month waiting period. Coverage continues as long as the member works at least 330 hours in the qualifying quarter, has at least 330 hours in his/her hours bank or makes the appropriate self-payment to continue coverage.

The Minnesota Laborers Health & Wellness Clinics are powered by HealthPartners. The Fund also uses the Delta Dental Provider Network for dental care, and the Envision Pharmacy Network for your prescription needs. Together, these bring you a very broad provider base and great discounts on quality care. Those discounts help the Fund, but also help lower your out-of-pocket costs for healthcare. When you are eligible for coverage under the Laborers Fund, you will receive downloadable Identification Cards to provide to your medical, dental, and pharmacy providers.

Retire in Style with Generous Pension Benefits

When you work as a union laborer, your employer invests in your future so that you have the opportunity to prosper and retire well. Under most of the Minnesota and North Dakota collective bargaining agreements, an employer makes a pension contribution for each hour a laborer works in covered employment. The amount of the hourly contribution varies by contract, job classification or area worked. This benefit provides a steady and reliable monthly benefit, allowing you to enjoy your retirement years.

The Minnesota Laborers Pension Fund is healthy and in the “green zone” as defined by the Pension Protection Act of 2006 (PPA).
